Welcome to The Truggery

The oldest trug shop in the world!.

We have been making Sussex Trugs in our workshop and selling them from a little shop attached to the house for over a hundred years.

Our trugs are still made using traditional methods and materials. We use locally coppiced sweet chestnut for the frame and the willow for the boards and feet is mainly a by product of the cricket bat industry. Trug making plays a small but important part in the conservation of ancient coppiced woodlands and is one of the reasons trug making needs to be preserved as a craft.

The shop does not have regular opening hours, although we usually open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings. It is best to call first before making a special journey.

To make enquiries or for mail order, call 01323 832314 or email info@truggery.co.uk.

Coopers Croft, Herstmonceux, HAILSHAM, East Sussex BN27 1QL

The shop will not be open from Friday 9th October until Thursday 15th October.
The office will re-open on Wednesday 14th October.

A Trugmaker's Garden

RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2015

Due to the phenomenal interest in our Sussex Trugs following Chelsea Live on BBC 2 when Monty Don talked to the designers of the Gold Medal winning garden in the Artisan section, we would like to ask those who have ordered trugs from the website to be patient. These are true artisan products and each is individually hand made so please bear with us.
